Ben's Red Swings

Every tuesday we have decided to go to the free movies and the park. This park was made possible because of  the last wish of a little boy named Ben.

I would just  like to thank Ben for thinking of all the children who would come and play at this beautiful park that you made possible.
The girls always have so much fun. Charleigh was walking around with Piper's friend Gracie so I didn't get as many pictures of her.

Walking with my chickee Charleigh

We have  now walked 27 of our 120 miles.  Charleigh has been doing so well I am so proud of her. She never complains when it is time to walk she just goes and get her shoes and is ready to go.  We are hoping to meet our goal of 40 miles by the 30th. Wish us luck!!!

Yikes!!

Tuesday we went to the park and if you go to the park you have to walk through the zoo.  Anyway we were walking through the wilderness trail and I looked over and saw this staring at me. I jumped out of my skin and screamed. I go and look and it is a stupid fake frog. At least the fam got a laugh out of it.

Tuesday started the first of the family fun movie day. That is where you can go to the movies for free. We saw Astro Boy which was really good. After the movies we went to the park and had lunch.

Charligh decided to count the rings on the tree stump.
I am also very glad that I haven't come across any of these bugs.
Today was HOT HOT HOT. Well I should say that it has been hot all week but today it reached the triple digits.  100 and that didn't include the humidity.  We were supposed to go to fun land but it was just way to hot so we went to the bay. We called another family in our ward and had a blast.

Field Day

On the last day of school the 3rd and 4th graders had a field day. It is different from the field day we had as kids because they just play the games to play. Nobody wins or loses. It is kind of nice not to have to worry about it all the kids are just happy to play nobody is left out.  I have to say I am kind of upset because my battery ran out and I wasn't able to get pictures of everything but Charleigh seemed to have lots of fun. I also had Piper with me for part of the day. I was with another parent at the 50 and 100 yard dash. Kind of funny seems I don't run anyway Piper had so much fun running with the kids. I was very thankful for being able to share the time with Charleigh.

This is Charleigh's classroom. Lets just say the kids were going crazy.
This is Josh. Charleigh has a big crush on him. She thinks he is just sooooooo cute and smart. I wish I could have gotten more pictures maybe next year. They had fun and that is all that counts.

This was the Home of John Dickinson. His father Samuel built it in the late 1700's.  John Dickinson was know for being a signer of the Constitution. He was well known for his politics and also owning the most free slaves here in De.  One of the things the kids did was write with quill pens. They also played two games that the kids played with during that time frame.

Field Trip

Today I was able to go on a field trip with Charleigh's class. We went to the Delaware agriculture museum and the John Dickenson  museum.  It really hot but the kids seemed to have a really good time.

This is a one room school house they moved from somewhere is Delaware. It was for kids in the 1st- 8th grades. The lady talked to the kids about what school was like for kids back in the 1800's. She also talked about the Sears catalog. The kids got to do fake orders Charleigh and her friend ordered fans and harmonicas. Silly girls!!  It was really neat to look around and see all the things that  were from the 1800's. I am very glad that we have schools with more then one room. It was very small. I would have gone crazy. One of the things kids got to do was write on slates.  They thought that was fun.
 Next came the General Store.
This was an actual store that had been moved. Here they learned about the Barter system. I also learned that during the 1800's that Delaware was the biggest producer of peaches in the US. Who would have thought.
After that we visited the Barber shop. This guys was really neat. His name was John Little Bear.
He told the kids that barbers didn't only cut hair but they often also were dentist and doctors.  He said that when they were doing surgery they would make a small cut on the wrist to let the fever out in the blood. They would wrap a towel around the wrist and when they are done they would put the towel out on a pole. When the wind would blow the towel  would around it and make it look like a striped pole and that is why barbers use that striped pole as a sign now. Gross!

Next came the Train station.

Our group. They were really good. Our last stop was the farm house.

Can I just say I am so thankful for modern day appliances. That was a very hard life for a Mom. Well That is it for the 1st stop I will do another post for the 2nd stop.
